Rosemary For Hair Loss

Rosemary, with it's wonderful, powerful scent is known as the "Antioxidant Queen". Science has looked at it for it's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as, it's ability to boost cognition.

Herbalist have used it it to aid in digestion, liver health, mood and heart health.

The ways to use rosemary include culinary, tea, infusions and essential oils.

Today, our use of rosemary will be for hair loss, using the pure essential oil of rosemary!

Studies have shown that the oil of rosemary can help (* see studies below) and competes well with the use of topical minidoxil, the active ingredient in Regaine, Rogaine and other hair-regrowth preparations for alopecia.

Encouraging Hair Growth

To encourage hair growth, many herbalist will use this blend:

Simply blend 2 teaspoons of rosemary essential oil, 2 teaspoons lavender essential oil, 1/2 ounce cayenne tincture and a pint of sesame oil. Massage this mixture into the scalp and let sit for a while, 10 to 20 minutes is good. Wash as usual.

Why the additional Lavender essential oil? Lavender essential oil protects your scalp against bacteria. It helps in improving blood circulation in the scalp, which strengthens the hair follicles. This, in turn, prevents hair loss and enables hair growth.

Why the additional cayenne tincture? Cayenne pepper improves peripheral blood circulation and nourishes the scalp.

And, the sesame oil...The sesame oil is a carrier and is rich in essential fatty acids, which are known to help slow down hair loss, hair fall, and can improve the overall appearance of your hair. A study noted that being deficient in these fatty acids could impact hair loss, and that while more and rigorous research needed to be done, getting more of these essential fats could improve hair growth for some people.

Of course, if you don't have all the ingredients for the blend you could simply add 5 drops of rosemary essential oil to a bit of sesame oil and apply to your scalp. You will still get all the benefits of the rosemary and the sesame seed oil.

To take it even easier you could use an organic product such as John Masters Organics Daily Nourishing Shampoo with Lavender & Rosemary!

The results of seeing new hair growth could take up to 6 months, however, you get the benefit of a healthier scalp right away.

Of course our diet and the nutrients we take in is the major player for scalp and hair health! Foods like salmon, yogurt, spinach, guava, lean poultry, sweet potatoes, cinnamon, sardines...

Processed foods will not help, sugar will not help, hydrogenated corn oil will not help...

So make sure you eat nutrient dense foods and give rosemary essential oil a try. I would love to hear about the results!
